Book Blogs: The 5th Wave

This book is the first instalment in the 5th wave trilogy written by Rick Yancey. This is a gripping tale of an alien invasion. This isn’t a typical alien invasion where all countries and armies band together despite their differences and beat them, in this story, all people go into shock and panic. The aliens don’t launch a cliché all scale invasion, they use 5 different waves hence the title of the series, the 5th wave.

  1. The first wave: They launch an massive EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse) to knock out everything that runs on electricity or batteries that knocks us back to the stone age.
  2. The second wave: You know fault lines right?  Where they can create Earthquakes when intense kinetic energy is exerted and that can cause Tsunamis? Yeah, the aliens decided to drop metal rods all the way from space and they are twice the size of the empire state building and 3 times as heavy into the fault lines and the kinetic energy exerted is mammoth. And what is the result? Surf’s up. Massive Tsunamis cripple low lying areas in the world such as Florida, Singapore, Hong Kong etc…and this kills off 3 billion people
  3. The 3rd wave: The aliens decided to use a genetically enhanced form of Ebola that has a 97% kill rate that makes the contractor bleed to death and makes you a viral bomb, you will explode spraying the virus to everybody around you.
  4. The 4th wave: The aliens download their consciousness into human bodies and kill off all humans that they can find.
  5. The 5th wave: They pretend to be the humans that have survived and made a military camp for children to train them, they trick them by saying that all other humans out there are the aliens so that the children will do the killing for them.

This story is very gripping but also reveals little so that it will keep you hyped for the next book. I am already on the 2nd book of the series and I will make another post about that when I am done with it.
